Afternoon with family

  • Oct. 7th, 2008 at 6:15 PM

We had a very nice afternoon Sunday at Fruitridge farms just north of Grand Rapids. We enjoyed a horse drawn hay ride, searching for pumpkins in the patch, picking apples, watching Mali ride a pony, getting lost in the corn maze, and just being with family. The only sad note is that this is Em's last autumn with us and while we wish her much happiness in Alabama, we will miss her dearly. More than words. *emo lori is trying not to be and full of fail*

We headed to the Meijer Garden today and saw the butterflies blooming! We also were able to spend some time with Em, which the kids really liked. Mali attached herself to Em as usual, it was very cute.

Lady of War lyrics (Sekhmet)

  • Nov. 21st, 2007 at 2:22 PM

Lady of War

VOCAL INTRO -MIDDLE EASTERN VOCALS

(VERSE)
Born for destruction
ripped from her fathers eye
a demon unleashed from tears of hate
sent forth into the land of men

(pre chorus)
She doesn't care about your comfort
evil doesn't hear your screams

(Verse)
The Nile ran red
as fear rose across the land
all will fear the lioness' wrath
desert winds were said to be her breathe

(pre chorus)
she doesn't care about your comfort
evil doesn't hear your screams

(chorus)
The lady of war
what she wants she'll take
the lady of war
what she wants she'll take

(first 1/2 of musical break no vocals)
(2nd half of musical break, middle eastern vocals)

(Verse 3)
Her maker became disturbed
as she reveled in her thirst
tricked into drinking what appeared to be blood
now in deep sleep under
now in slumber
destroy the one, lady of war

(chorus)
the lady of war
what she wants, she'll take
the lady of war
what she wants she'll take
she'll take
take, she'll take,
(trail off with middle eastern vocals)

Great night!!

I went to the WGRD Bootleg Bash to see Dendura and it totally rocked. We got their early, knowing they gave out more tickets than the Orbit Room could hold. We stood out in the cold mist for an hour and then in the club for another hour to wait for them to go on stage. I wanted to be right up front, and wore my red cloak because she was going to see Lady Of War for the first time. They were the starting band and she started with Isis

sister oh divine one
lady of the heavens
prophets speak of your light
isis speaks, oh giver of life
oh levitate, oh levitate
now speak
now speak to me
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa speak!

CHORUS
blood of my blood
seed of my seed
hear thy name
X3

she whispers to oblige
her words control the mind
her voice demands attention
she, she speaks with conviction
of leviate, oh leviate
now speak
now speak to me
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa speak!

CHORUS
blood of my blood
seed of my seed
thy golden shield
X3

As soon as she started singing, she spotted me and smiled and winked so I knew she knew I was there. It was awesome. I don't generally like the heavy stuff, but the variety of tempo and strong lyrics just pulled me in. It wasn't "alternative Rock" like the rest of the bands there that night so I think some people didnt know what to do with their music. I totally go into it and honestly forgot I was in a room full of people except for the occasional rush of energy that slammed into my back. The 4th song was Lady of War which she wrote about Sekhmet and I was blown away. She had sent me the lyrics so I knew what they words were, but I didnt know the music, although I admit singing it in my head when I read them. The music was very much like what I had imagined but obviously better. I found myself singing with her through the chorus. It's one version of the story of Sekhmet and I will post them here when she gives me permission.

They played a few more songs and were done for the night as there were 6 other bands including Fuel to go on that night. We left, as that is all we were there for, and went to the area where they were selling t-shirts and such. Aziza walked out so I was able to see her before we left. She said she noticed I was singing Lady of War with her and thought that was cool. There was a group around her, all trying to get her attention so we only talked for a minute or two and she thanked us for coming and invited me out to lunch next week to meet her boyfriend. She is going to try and come to our local pagan group gatherings in December so she can meet everyone else.

My parents watched the kids so they had a blast, too. It was a great night and the only bad part was knowing that someone very dear to me isn't feeling well. I found myself thinking of her throughout the night and wishing she were there with us and feeling better. She would have loved it.

I spent the last hour and a half on the phone talking with her. I think she will be okay tonight, but if she doesn't get help soon it won't matter. I am exhausted and scared for her.

How Girly Are You?

You Can Hang With the Guys and the Girls

You've struck a good balance between girlie and laid back.
You can keep it casual but when you dress up, you are as girly as the next girl.

How open minded are you?

  • Nov. 14th, 2007 at 6:14 PM

You Are 92% Open Minded

You are so open minded that your brain may have fallen out!
Well, not really. But you may be confused on where you stand.
You don't have a judgemental bone in your body, and you're very accepting.
You enjoy the best of every life philosophy, even if you sometimes contradict yourself.

I am working on a new signature line for my message boards and came up with this so far. I need to add a caption which might be something like "Lori and her babies." I need to find a way to work the tigers in more, but I don't have many good pictures of me with them as they werent my primary responsibility. I am still working on contacting my friend with tigers to have some big cat time soon. Overall feeling better and letting this go a little more.

I hate it when I feel like this...like something is going to happen, something big. I am twitchy and that's not usually like me at all. I dont know if this is going to happen to me directly or someone I know, but it's going to happen soon and I can't tell if its good or bad, just big and life altering.

Interesting that I feel like running out in the middle of it, so it must not be too dangerous. *shrug* We shall soon see.

Let the games begin.

I fucking love this song

ANNA NALICK LYRICS

"Breathe (2 AM)"

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize,
Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe

May he turn 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist,
"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe

There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe.

Here is a video of her singing it acoustic and it's just beautiful.

My favorite part is "There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around."

I needed to hear this.

You are Strength

Courage, strength, fortitude. Power not arrested in the act of judgement, but passing on to further action, sometimes obstinacy.

This is a card of courage and energy. It represents both the Lion's hot, roaring energy, and the Maiden's steadfast will. The innocent Maiden is unafraid, undaunted, and indomitable. In some cards she opens the lion's mouth, in others she shuts it. Either way, she proves that inner strength is more powerful than raw physical strength. That forces can be controlled and used to score a victory is very close to the message of the Chariot, which might be why, in some decks, it is Justice that is card 8 instead of Strength. With strength you can control not only the situation, but yourself. It is a card about anger and impulse management, about creative answers, leadership and maintaining one's personal honor. It can also stand for a steadfast friend.

Broke My Damn Toe

  • Jul. 8th, 2007 at 7:18 PM

OW! Fucking hurts. I was getting out of the waterbed this morning and somehow whacked it on the frame. I thought it was dislocated because it didnt seem to bruise up. I went to a car show and was in mild pain, but nothing major. On the way home, I look and the whole side of it is purple, then when I get home, the top is purple, too. Damnit. Walking without shoes is worse than with shoes on and I HATE shoes. Fuck Fuck Fuck

for the under 30 crowd

  • Jun. 30th, 2007 at 12:55 AM

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways .. yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet.  If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email! ! We had to actually write somebody a letter ..with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either!  When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "asteroids" and the graphics sucked! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height!  If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire ... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled!!!!!!!!!

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30's crowd
